Our exclusive genetics supplier, High-Grade Hemp Seed, is gearing up for their first appearance at the Southern Hemp Expo (SHE). The leading hemp event of the south, SHE 2019 will be held in Franklin, Tennessee on Sept. 6-7.

Research shows that the 2020 growing season will see nearly 500,000 acres of farmland invested in hemp cultivation, and a shortage of strong genetics to back up the exponential increase. The hemp industry as a whole is ablaze nationwide but is facing a shortage of reliable, compliant genetics to support mass seed manufacturing. High Grade Hemp Seed supplies genetics that are farm-tested, time-approved, and have never had a crop destroyed due to compliance issues with the national THC level regulations. That’s where High Grade Hemp Seed comes in.

The company plans to produce millions of seeds and starts of three of their most popular strains, and expects to sell 300-500 million seeds and 100 million starts to support the 2020 growing season. The strains that will be available are Cherry Wine, Berry Blossom, and Merlot at an unprecedented $.99 a start. Feminized seed starts outshine hemp clones, and provide a reliable and consistent crop due to the presence of the taproot that allows High Grade Hemp Seed’s starts to flourish quickly. Seed starts also make it easier for farmers to plan, allowing them to maximize crop time and have a reliable growing season.

With a vast network of nurseries nationwide, High Grade Hemp Seed is able to coordinate logistics of distribution and maximize supply to meet the demands of growers across the United States.

Founder and CEO of High Grade Hemp Seed, Bodhi Urban, said “We are dedicated to the success of our customers, and we are putting pricing muscle behind that dedication by making starts available for less than one dollar for the first time in our company’s history.” Urban added, “This is the lowest pricing available in the industry to the best of our knowledge, and we hope it helps farmers take advantage of starts. Now is the time to call and reserve as we anticipate selling out well in advance of spring shipping.”

Visit the High Grade Hemp Seed booth at SHE this year to find out more about what they have to offer and where the company is going. We are excited about their success and our continued partnership.

Also, join High Grade Hemp Seed as they sponsor the After Party, starting at 8 pm on Saturday, Sept. 7th, the closing night of SHE. The company wants to support and celebrate the thriving hemp industry and all of the thoughtful dedication going into its sustainable expansion.

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, the United States Department of Agriculture put in place a system by which each state can register to have a legal industrial hemp program. This opened the door for every state to individually decide to create the infrastructure necessary to enter the industrial hemp market. Because the gateway was opened without a concise mandate at the federal level, it can be difficult to keep track of the varying hemp laws in each state. So, we thought we’d help condense the information and make it easier for farmers and potential hemp enthusiasts to learn where and how hemp can be grown legally. (3)

First up, Michigan. The Great Lakes State has become quite hemp-friendly since the passing of the Farm Bill and is working on streamlining the registration and growing processes both for statewide and interstate hemp commerce. (3)

The History

Michiganders are some of the newest to the industrial hemp industry, but they are a force to be reckoned with. In 2015, Governor Snyder of Michigan signed a bill that separated the legal definitions of hemp and marijuana, setting apart industrial hemp and allowing it to be cultivated for research. This is set into motion the trajectory that led to the state’s accessibility to the hemp market as a whole (4). While states such as Colorado and Oregon began their agricultural pilot programs to research Industrial hemp as early as 2009 and 2010, Michigan quickly caught up.

On December 28, 2018, Governor Rick Snyder signed Michigan House Bills 6330, 6331 and 6380 (Public Acts 641, 642, and 648 of 2018) into law. This amended the Industrial Hemp Research Act that was previously in place in the state, now allowing anyone over the age of 18 to register to grow industrial hemp. All growing, processing, and handling of industrial hemp will be regulated by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). (2)

The Fine Print

In order to grow hemp in Michigan, farmers must register with the MDARD. This will allow the state to facilitate a healthy and ethical hemp industry. Furthermore, a program is in development now that will implement guidelines for the interstate trading of hemp in congruence with the requirements of both state and federal laws. (3)

The Industrial Hemp Research and Development Act (IHRDA) limits application fees for growers to $100, and $1350 for processor-handlers. The statute also states that the applicants must disclose the names of all corporate members and those with equitable holdings of 10% or more in each given business, allowing systemic regulation from both agricultural and economic standpoints. (5)

The IHRDA also states that growers may not plant industrial hemp in the midst of a crop that is not industrial hemp. Industrial hemp must be on its own plot of land (5). Another rule stated in the Act says that any hemp crop that contains higher than the allowed .3% TCH content will be classified as Marijuana and dealt with as such under Michigan law. (3)

The Gist

It is now legal in Michigan to grow industrial hemp as long as you abide by all the laws stated in the legislation. The attitude toward this beneficial industrial crop is becoming overwhelming positive in the state. In fact, under the new legislation, Michiganders may even have criminal charges involving small-scale possession of cannabis expunged from their records. (1)

Michigan, now is the time to plan for investing in hemp however you can, whether that’s growing hemp, investing in hemp futures, or anything in between.

“We are here to connect people that want to do good business and be good stewards of the land.” – Mike Leago, founder of iHEMPX.

Mike Leago founded the International Hemp Exchange after realizing a need for more connectivity and support throughout the hemp supply chain. With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, the need for reliable partners quickly became evident. His goal was to partner with companies who align with iHEMPx values and mutually stimulate an atmosphere of responsibility, efficacy, and expansion.

The Beginning of a Partnership

In 2016, iHEMPX became the first licensed bonded hemp broker in the United States. The volume of business was overwhelming, and it became immediately apparent that nearly all the farmers buying from iHEMPX wanted feminized seeds. After working with many other seed genetic suppliers, which resulted in some unsatisfactory experiences, one strain prevailed over all the rest. Mike and his team at iHEMPX had frequently sourced seed genetics from HGH Seed Co., and every experience had been conclusively beneficial on all sides. Farmers began requesting seeds sourced from HGH because they knew iHEMPX was proximal and hoped they could get access to the product. The results showed that HGH had engineered a hemp seed with a hearty yield and maximum soil compatibility. The only problem they faced was a lack of seeds to meet the demand. It became clear there was only a certain allotment HGH could supply, so Leago had to find a solution.

Expansion and Identifying Market Entry

iHEMPX tried to source seeds from other suppliers but was unable to find a seed partner as reliable as HGH. Leago is dedicated to his ethic of providing seeds to farmers, and with other suppliers at times that meant poor quality seeds or coming out of his own pocket to follow through on certain overpriced orders. He began to see that it was imperative to get back into business with HGH, and after months of ideating, they came to an agreement for an exclusive partnership to sell seeds in the state of Oregon. Leago soon found the land necessary to partner on facilities to produce, market, and sell HGH’s genetics and seeds nationally and internationally. iHEMPX would help field inquiries and promote HGH’s seeds, expanding the product that had gained wide acclaim.

About HGH

HGH Seed Inc. has been devoted to the resurgence of hemp in the US over the last decade, and in 2011 the founding members began studying hemp genetics and growing the plant in Florida. Soon after, HGH’s founder Bodhi Urban played an integral role in starting America’s first Hemp Certified Farm in 2014, he began to see the need for fully certified lab-tested feminized seeds to guarantee farmers’ yields and profits. The 2018 Farm Bill split open the burgeoning market for hemp seeds, and HGH was well-established to provide. HGH has created many of the most popular strains of hemp, including Cherry Wine, Berry Blossom, and Trophy Wife. Since partnering with iHEMPX and moving to Oregon, HGH continues to be the leading innovator and supplier of hemp seed genetics in the US.

The Future of iHEMPX and HGH

With a state-of-the-art facility that offers 1 million square feet of greenhouse production space, iHEMPX and HGH will continue to elevate the quality of hemp genetics. IHE is growing 400 acres of their own genetics, as well as providing 50 cell trays of rooted HGH seeds to Oregon and surrounding markets. Together, they are already setting new standards for the 2019 season with strains such as Merlot and Red Bordeaux. The 2018 Farm Bill is breaking open new legislation on the growing of hemp, and as local and state governments continue to promote the environmentally regenerative and economically viable crop, iHEMPX and HGH will be at the forefront of the market.

If you are ready to order your 2019 seeds and starts, it is not too late!

Hemp is in high demand once again. From biodiesel and building alternatives, to dairy and cooking oil substitutes, to taking its place amongst superfoods, hemp is a key crop for a sustainable future. One of the largest outputs of the emerging hemp industry is the fabric that is spun from the fibers of the hemp plant. With the apparel industry considered to be the second largest contributor to pollution worldwide (1), hemp as a sustainable fabric is the answer to mindful production and consumption of clothing.

2018 Farm Bill: Opening The Door For Sustainability

Federal bans on growing hemp were lifted with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, leaving jurisdiction of hemp farming in the hands of state and local governments. (2)

Regions where the growing of hemp has been permitted have seen a flourishing of the local economy as well as environmental benefits unlike any other commercial crop. Hemp is a carbon positive plant, meaning it puts more nutrients back into the soil than it extracts during growth.

It is also carbon negative in the sense that it has a high absorption rate of carbon dioxide from its environment, more so than any other sustainable materials used to make clothing, due to the density of the plant. During its growing period, hemp enriches the soil and allows farmers to grow other crops immediately following the harvest, eliminating the need for a fallow period. Hemp can also be used to clean up soil pollution quicker than other crops, and even absorbs toxins in contaminated ground water. (2)

In comparison with other crops used to produce fabric, hemp is the most sustainable. (2) While organic cotton, and linen, which is made from the flax plant, are good alternatives to chemical-laden synthetic fabrics, the growing processes are not as environmentally friendly as that of hemp. Hemp crops yield twofold what cotton and flax crops can produce in a given season, and hemp is a sturdier plant less susceptible to failure in subpar growing conditions. Aside from the overall efficiency and larger returns from a hemp crop of the same size, it uses significantly less water than both cotton and flax crops. (3)

The Benefits Of Hemp Clothing

After the growing is done and the fabric is made, the benefits keep on coming. Like most natural fabrics, hemp fabric is a great temperature regulator. It is breathable in warmer weather and somewhat insulating in cooler weather. Hemp clothing is also naturally antimicrobial, which means it will fight odors and resist the mold, mildew, and dirt that cause them. It is also great for people with sensitive skin, as hemp is usually processed with little to no chemicals. Hemp has a sturdy fibre structure, making it a durable and long-lasting fabric.

These fibers stand up well to the washing process, grow softer over time, and wear as they relax. In an increase in the use of hemp in fashion, designers have found that the fabric is noticeably soft and has a natural drape to it that affords aesthetic appeal and function to hemp clothing. And, when hemp garments have run their course, the material will biodegrade. This lends itself to lessening the environmental impact of waste in the clothing industry. (3)

Hemp In Fashion

While hemp clothing has long been associated with a particular subset of American culture, more and more designers are embracing sustainability and, by extension, hemp. With fashion trending toward comfort and function, hemp is the new black in the world of designer clothing. As early as 2008, Fashion Week featured sustainable clothing in a showcase called FutureFashion where hemp was the secret ingredient of jumpsuits and gowns by Calvin Klein and Donatella Versace. (6)

Along with its affordability and chic appearance, hemp provides an on-trend color palette of neutrals ranging from warmer soft yellows and browns to dusty pinks and peaches, especially when enhanced with natural and sustainable dyes. Hemp is here to stay.

The Future Of Hemp Clothing

More mindful companies geared toward active and outdoor clothing, such as prAna and Patagonia, have been integrating hemp into their designs quite successfully for years. The specs lend themselves to hemp as a performance material as well as an aid in the sustainability initiatives set forth by environmentally responsible clothing companies. With hemp production in high demand, coupled with the economic stimulation and the positive environmental impact of the crop, it’s high time to start investing in hemp couture.

As the hemp industry faces a shortage of reputable genetics, IHE is releasing up to 10 million proven HGH starts to hemp farmers this season

BOULDER, Colo.– International Hemp Exchange (IHE), a leader in the burgeoning U.S. hemp industry, and Seed2System, are proud to announce production of up to 10 million HGH feminized seed starts available for nationwide delivery this spring out of their Colorado nursery.

Feminized seedlings are a superior alternative to clones for hemp farmers ready to purchase live plants ready to go in the ground. Unlike clones, feminized seeds have a tap root that helps produce a more vigorous growth pattern than a clone. Now Colorado hemp farmers can maximize their production season by purchasing established plants rather than starting from seeds.

IHE and Seed2System are forecasting nearly 500,000 acres of hemp will be grown this season across the country. This exponential increase in acreage, combined with a shortage of quality genetics, is driving aggressive demand. Through their powerhouse partnership, they are proud to offer the highest quality hemp genetics from HGH Seed, and they combine proven genetics with the knowledge and connections needed to turn seed starts into highly profitable crops.

HGH Seed is the original breeder of many high-quality hemp strains, including Cherry Wine, Berry Blossom, and Trophy Wife, among many others. Since 2014 they have been widely regarded as the leaders in the CBD seed industry and were the obvious choice for International Hemp Exchange and Seed2System when looking for the right global partner to support scale in Colorado.

The companies have partnered with one of the largest nursery flower producers in the country to germinate plants and collaborate on logistics in order to distribute healthy hemp plants all across the U.S.

Since passage of the Farm Bill in December, tens of thousands of acres in Colorado are converting to hemp with more acreage coming online each and every week. This volume of acreage under production will require millions of feminized plants. Nationally there will be hundreds of thousands of acres grown requiring up to 500 million feminized seeds, starts or clones.

The overall CBD market is poised to grow to $22 billion by 2022, and now is the time for farmers to see maximum return from a farm operation.

Mike Leago, President of International Hemp Exchange, said “This is a partnership of undisputed leaders in the hemp industry, and we are dedicated to the success of our customers. Farmers can rest assured they are working with the best in the business and confidently capitalize on this once-in-a-lifetime crop potential. If farmers need starts, now is the time to call and reserve – there will be greater availability and more room to negotiate on delivery and pricing.”

IHE anticipates selling 30 million seeds and 10 million starts this season. Starts will begin shipping to customers on May 24th. Farmers should contact IHE to reserve their supply.

About International Hemp Exchange

Founded in 2016 in Colorado, IHE serves the hemp industry and allows consumers and businesses to connect. IHE works with the best partners in the industry to bring expertise and connectivity to domestic and international clients across the hemp supply chain, from farmers to processors to manufacturers. The company exclusively produces and distributes HGH seeds, the most genetically superior seeds available, and provides the support and education to turn those seeds into highly profitable crops. For more information on IHE and to inquire about the availability of Colorado seeds, starts, clones and smokable flower, visit www.ihempx.com or call #877-FARM-HEMP (327-6436).

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is extracted from the cannabis plant and is then generally diluted with an oil such as hemp seed or coconut oil. Though it comes from the cannabis plant, CBD does not cause a “high” for its users and is preferred by consumers looking for a natural remedy for common ailments without having to take pharmaceutical drugs.

Pain Relief: CBD may be effective in treating a multitude of pain related ailments such as back, joint, and muscle pain. In combination with THC, it may also be effective in “reducing pain associated with diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis by interacting with receptors in the brain and immune system (2, 3).”

Anxiety: Studies (4) show that CBD may be an effective as a treatment for generalized anxiety. Other disorders that showed promising results include panic disorder, social anxiety, and PTSD.

Anti-Seizure Properties: The U.S Food and Drug Administration recently approved an oral solution containing CBD for the treatment of seizures associated with two rare forms of epilepsy (5)

Diabetic treatment (lab) : In diabetic mice, treatment with CBD reduced the incidence of diabetes by over 50% as well as significantly reducing inflammation (6).

Psychotic Symptom treatment: Studies suggest that CBD may have antipsychotic effects that could help people with mental disorders such as schizophrenia by reducing their symptoms (7).

With the recent passing of the 2018 Farm Bill and rapid growth of the CBD industry, more studies and products will begin featuring CBD. While many of the health benefits of using CBD are still early-stage, the addition of scientifically backed health studies will continue to help solidify CBD as an effective health supplement.
